I am working almost exclusively with Showit and Shopify to build my clients’ business websites. I am evangelical about Showit. If you own a small creative business, I truly think you’re crippling your business from the start by putting it on another website platform.
I know that can come off extreme. I am hearing myself as I type this out, but honestly, I’m not going to take it back. Your website is one of the most pivotal, converting, sales-driving aspects (if not THE most) of your business. That means the capabilities of the platform you’re using are wildly important. I know they’re not always fun to talk about and often feel like a foreign language, so I want to break it down simply. Here’s why I love using Showit for small business website design.
Technically, you can even build a website yourself. A lot of people do that; I would not recommend it. Either have a custom website built for you or purchase a template and have a web designer customize it for you (I offer both of these services). I know you’re thinking, yeah, that doesn’t sound like anything particularly beneficial to me. So let me explain:
Once your website is designed, the backend is going to be so clean and simple that you, yourself, can go in and change photos and copies and links! This is huge! I have so many clients who were talked into a WordPress site by a designer. WordPress is great, but you’re going to pay a designer every time you need something done. Or, you’re going to be stuck paying for a retainer. You need a website that doesn’t intimidate you. Showit will empower you!
I’m a big believer that visual, creative businesses need a creative and visually interesting website. Saying you’re innovative and original is easier for potential clients to believe when they can actually see on your site how that’s true. If you’ve got a basic, rectangular, boring site like everyone else, you’re already selling yourself short.
Showit has so many customization capabilities. Even a complete novice will be able to figure out how to add some character to their website. When you work with a professional like me, we can really make some website magic. We can design a site that accurately reflects your work and style.
This is getting into that technical aspect, but it’s a benefit that you can see. Most website builders either rely on the desktop design to “create” the mobile design or they’ve made making mobile designs so difficult and code-reliant that most people cannot work with them.
Showit allows you to separately design the mobile version of your website. You can drag and drop items easily so that the mobile design is original and beautiful.
I’m sure you’re thinking, “Wait, I thought you said earlier that I don’t have to use WordPress?” Technically, your website is through Showit, and your blog is integrated through WordPress. So, don’t worry, you still won’t need to design anything through that backend.
Having a WordPress blog is ideal. WordPress blogs allow you to prioritize search engine optimization. This is great because for most of us, that’s one of the main reasons we’re even spending all of this time and energy blogging. Once your website is live, you can hop into WordPress to set up and start blogging.
This is a reason I do recommend having a professional either design your website or customize your template. I do all of that set up for you, including creating your blog categories, downloading plugins, and then walking you through the easiest way to write and schedule your blogs.
For small creative businesses, especially if you’re looking to diversify your revenue streams, Showit seamlessly integrates with popular e-commerce platforms, providing a secure and flexible solution for setting up and managing online stores. I prefer working with Shopify in tandem with your Showit website. We can integrate the two so that everything is still seamless and branded. And, Shopify has a very clean and intuitive backend for even beginners to feel comfortable with.
Your website remains a reflection of your brand’s creative prowess. To keep your business looking and operating at its best, Showit stands as the best choice for visual creatives. Its intuitive interface, customization capabilities, integration with WordPress, SEO prowess, and dedication to user experience make it the ideal platform. If you want to combine your creative aesthetic with an online presence that leaves a professional impression, Showit is perfect for you.
I want you to have a website that you know is not only working for you as you growth, but one that empowers you as a business owner. You should have the ability to edit your website without paying someone every time. That’s one of the biggest reasons I work with my creative small business clients on Showit websites.
Having been a visual artist for over 10 years, I know that every part of a brand (even the parts that are often unseen) deserve to be expressed with honesty and beauty. I am happiest standing behind the scenes, creating every design and detail for focused and intentional business owners. I created EP Design to stand beside visionaries and thought leaders who are fueled by joy.
